Facts
- A travel trailer is commonly known as a recreational vehicle (RV).
- It is a type of caravan that is used for recreational purposes or as a full-time living quarter.
- A trailer has to be towed either by a car, van, truck or SUV (sports utility vehicle) depending on the size of the trailer.
- A travel trailer will be equipped with the basics like electricity, water heater, refrigerator, stove/oven, television/satellite dish, shower, toilet with flush, sofas and beds.
- Travel trailers do come in various sizes to suit the different needs of individuals or families.
- One of the biggest travel trailers can house 10 people.
- Whether used or brand new, travel trailers are for sale and rent.
Pop-up trailer
- A Pop-up trailer, which is also known as a tent or folding camping trailer, is a camping tent on wheels.
- Such a trailer is smaller and lighter in weight compared to a travel trailer. It offers the joy of tent camping with at-home comforts.
Fifth wheel trailer
- A fifth wheel trailer, which is also known as a Fiver, is a trailer that hitches in the bed of the truck.
- It has a bi-level design where a section of the truck bed is raised, usually designed as a master bedroom.
- The raised section often has a larger window at the rear for a better panoramic view.
- With the bedroom raised, a fifth wheel trailer has more space in the living area.
Truck camper
- A truck camper is a detachable camping unit loaded onto to the bed or chassis of a pickup truck.
- The detachable unit can be set on its own jacks, thereby separating itself from the pickup truck.
- A truck camper has kitchen facilities, shower, toilet and air conditioning.
- It is commonly used for fishing, hunting or backroad trips.
Slide-out options
- Slide-out options allow the trailer wall to extend outward, up to a distance of a meter, at a touch of a button.
- Some trailer models have as many as 4 slide-out options.
Trailer Insurance
- A good travel trailer insurance policy provides standard and optional coverages.
- Coverages include collision, vandalism, theft, fire, flood, landslide, hail, windstorm, low branches or overhangs, smoke, animals and lightning.
Trailer parts
- Trailer parts include coupling balls, couplers, dolly, fenders, spare tire holder and winches.
- A trailer hitch is a metal contraption that attaches to the vehicle's chassis, which is beneath the rear bumper.
- There are basically two types of trailer hitches : weight-carrying and weight-distributing.
- A weight-carrying hitch (deadweight-style hitch) is used for towing small and lighter trailers.
- A weight-distributing hitch (equalizing-style hitch) can be used for towing larger and heavier trailers.
- A trail hitch cover is used to cover up the unsightly trailer hitch. It also helps prevent dirt and debris from entering the hitch.
- A trailer hitch cover lock will prevent thiefs from stealing the trailer hitch.
