Shoe care
- Always use a weather-proof and stain repellent for all your shoes, especially those made of leather and suede. Weather-proofing prevent creases and cracks. Apply before wax polish.
- Some coloring materials that can be used to help camoflage scratches on shoe surface and heels include paint, nail polish/varnish, car paint markers, eye-liners, crayons, wax polish and candle wax. The crucial thing is to be able to get any of these that can match the color of your shoes.
- Coat a layer or two of clear nail or other type of varnish onto the heel for protection, then add a coat of shoe wax over the varnished area.
- To cover up ugly-looking or tattered patches on the underfoot shoe surface, use a shoe insole or simply paste fabric type plasters (first aid plasters) onto the affected areas.
- Use the inside of the banana skin to polish leather shoes then wipe clean with a paper towel or soft cloth. A fabric softener sheet has the same effect.
- A shoe tree is a device usually made of cedar wood placed in a shoe to help keep the shape, resist creasing & cracking while making the insoles smooth.
- If shoes are wet, leave out to dry for at least 24 hours. Stuff newsletters to absorb moisture. Do not place them near heat or risk cracking.
- Alternate shoes and allow leather shoes to breathe & take a break.
- One way to hide scratches or tattered patches on high-heel shanks is to spread a thin layer of glue all over each shank. Then sprinkle shimmery power on top, making sure that the powder covers the shank evenly. This would give the heels a brand new look. Alternatively, you can also paint the shank with a shimmery nail polish.
