Not All Vegetarians Are Alike

  • Vegan : consumes only plant-based foods. No animal products (meat, poultry, fish, dairy and eggs) including honey (which is made from bees) and some vegans may even refrain from yeast in extreme cases.

  • Semi-vegetarian : a lacto-ovo-vegetarian who occasionally eats servings of meat, poultry or fish.
  • Lacto-vegetarian : consumes dairy products but no meat, fish, poultry or eggs.
  • Ovo-vegetarian : consumes eggs, but no dairy, meat, fish or poultry.
  • Lacto-ovo-vegetarian : consumes dairy products and eggs, but no red meat, poultry or fish.
  • Pesca-vegetarian : a lacto-ovo vegetarian who consumes fish and/or seafood.
  • Pollo-vegetarian : a lacto-ovo vegetarian who consumes poultry.
