Lighting
- Ensure that the room’s lighting is adequate.
- Reduce glare from the room’s surrounding by fixing shades, curtains or shifting the computer’s position.
Monitor screen
- Reduce glare by adding a screen filter and do not adjust the screen brightness to its fullest.
- The monitor screen must be either at or below eye level. Do not place it at a level where the head has to be lifted.
- Maintain a distance of at least 50cm to 70cm (19 in. to 27 in.) between the computer screen.
- Wipe the monitor screen regularly. Dirt and dust accumulation can obstruct vision.
- Look away from the computer screen every 20-30 minutes to a distant object. Blink eyes often.
Keyboard and mouse
- Keyboard should be slightly higher than the elbow level. Open up the flaps behind the keyboard.
- Exert minimum force when typing on the keys on the keyboard.
- Move the mouse with your arm and not the wrist.
Other tips
- The back rest of the chair you are sitting on must be able to support the curve of the lower back.
- Place a glass or a bowl of water nearby to add moisture to the atmosphere.
- Avoid long periods of repeated actions. Take breaks regularly.
- Computer usage can expose users to EMF (electromagnetic field) radiation, cause eye problems and carpal tunnel syndrome.
