Helping Someone With Cancer

  • BE A LISTENER It is okay not to know what to say just be there to listen and show you care.
  • BE SENSITIVE and PATIENT Understand the needs and fears. Be willing to become aware of how the ill individual or the person taking care of the him/her is feeling.
  • VOLUNTEER YOUR HELP Do not wait to be asked. Be available. Help can mean cooking meals, doing household chores, going marketing, offering to baby-sit, bringing the kids out and accompanying during hospital visits.
  • READGather as much information as possible. Search for inspiring stories about how cancer survivors fought and won. Many of the book titles listed on this site are examples.
  • SEND MONEY Consider giving a cash gift (an amount you can afford) because it can help alleviate the costs incurred, namely the expensive medical bills, daily expenditure or the loss of income if work has to be given up.
