Unsafe Mercury Levels In Sushi

February 18th, 2008

A report on the New York Times in January 2008, revealed that laboratory tests conducted for the paper found that mercury content in tuna sushi served in NYC’s resturants are so high, that eating two or three pieces a week could be a health hazard.

Eight out of the 44 pieces of sushi purchased by the Times for testing had mercury levels so high that the FDA could take legal action to remove the fish from the market.

Although all the sushi samples were bought in Manhattan, experts believe similar results is expected in other locations. The tuna that were sampled was bluefin.
