How To Buy Probiotics?
These are the qualities that a probiotic supplement should have:
- Heat resistant and stable.
- No refrigeration required.
- Has a long shelf llife.
- Contains a large number of viable bacteria that will retain their viability during preparation and throughout its shelf life.
- Contains Lactobacillus sporogenes (a.k.a Bacillus coagulans) which were found to be resistant to the acidic environment in the stomach so that they will arrive at the intestine and not be destroyed in the stomach. They are more stable at room temperature compared to Lactobacillus acidophilus.
Lactobacillus sporogenes is a spore forming, naturally occurring bacteria that is part of the population of bacteria in the body. They absorb water, swell and move faster into the intestinal tract where they germinate and populate to proceed with their metabolic activities, producing the favored ‘right-spinning’ L (+) non-diary form of lactic acid to help digest and absorb vitamins and minerals. Lactobacillus acidophilus produces the D(-) lactic acid which can cause metabolic acidosis, a dangerous condition that develops when lactic acid accumulates in the body, causing blood pH to fall below 7.35.
