Tips To Relieve Diverticular Disease

  • Dr. John Heinerman in his book “Heinerman’s Encyclopedia of Healing Juices” (Prentice Hall, 1994), recommends the use of banana juice. The softness of the banana flesh is easily digested and upon reaching the colon, the banana would have turned slippery and slimy. As it coats the intestine walls, it acts as an anti-inflammatory agent and promotes healing.
  • Ms. Isabelle Navarre-Brown wrote in “76 Ways to Use Noni Fruit Juice (Direct Source, 2001) that the use of a noni rectal implant (fill an enema bottle with 1 to 2 ounces of
    noni juice) will benefit the lower bowel. Drink noni juice to reap noni’s healing benefits which includes noni’s anti-inflammatory properties.

  • Lactobacillus acidophilus is an indispensible friendly bacteria that helps ensure a healthy balance of flora in the gut and improves digestion.
  • Oat bran is a good souce of fiber and is useful when treating early diverticulosis or preventing the disease.
  • Psyllium and flaxseeds are also fibrous. Take 2 to 3 tablespoons of ground powder of either kind daily with water or fruit juice.
  • Enzymes are essential to the proper breaking down of food.
  • Glutamine is an amino acid needed for regenerating the cells that line the colon.
  • Vitamin B complex is essential for a healthy digestive system.
  • Aloe vera is known to help relieve digestive problems and is also an anti-flammatory agent which can heal inflamed areas.
  • A herbal mild laxative like slippery elm can soothe infected diverticula.
  • Peppermint oil relaxes digestive spasms.
  • Lemon balm and valerian are also known to soothe the digestive tract.
