  • Likes to be alone.
  • Dislikes personal contact with people.
  • Does not seek to play with other kids. In serious cases, may not be aware of the presence of others.
  • Avoids eye contact.
  • Repels cuddles.
  • Has short attention spans.
  • Constantly repeats certain actions (e.g. head banging, spinning, body rocking, teeth grinding and hand-twirling).
  • Unable to communicate effectively.
  • Echolalia. Repeats words or phases.
  • Does not imitiate adults.
  • Throws uncontrollable tantrums.
  • Gets upset with a change in environment (e.g. movement of an object).
  • Has excessive attachment to certain objects.
  • Has sensory problems. Hypersensitive to touch, smell, sound, taste and vision.
  • Over or under-sensitive to pain.
  • Appears deaf.
  • Tiptoe walking.
  • May be very active or very passive.
