Autism Symptoms
- Likes to be alone.
- Dislikes personal contact with people.
- Does not seek to play with other kids. In serious cases, may not be aware of the presence of others.
- Avoids eye contact.
- Repels cuddles.
- Has short attention spans.
- Constantly repeats certain actions (e.g. head banging, spinning, body rocking, teeth grinding and hand-twirling).
- Unable to communicate effectively.
- Echolalia. Repeats words or phases.
- Does not imitiate adults.
- Throws uncontrollable tantrums.
- Gets upset with a change in environment (e.g. movement of an object).
- Has excessive attachment to certain objects.
- Has sensory problems. Hypersensitive to touch, smell, sound, taste and vision.
- Over or under-sensitive to pain.
- Appears deaf.
- Tiptoe walking.
- May be very active or very passive.
