29 Essential Wedding Tips
- Timing It’s never too early to plan for your big day. Start dreaming about it, visit bridal shops, read bridal magazines and ask friends who are married.
- Authorities Check with the local marriage registry what are the proper procedures to take so that you can be officially married.
- $$ Decide how much money you want to spend. Be wise and be a good steward of your money (and your parents’ if they are also contributing).
- Marriage Remember that a wedding celebration is to mark a start of a relationship, how this marriage proceeds to grow and blossom is what that matters most and certainly not what you had on your wedding or how much you had spent on your wedding expenses.
- Guests Draw up a guest list and make arrangements for accommdation for overseas guests.
- Payment Use credit cards to pay whenever possible. This gives you the advantage to halt payment if there is a problem.
- Don’t throw Keep all receipts, contract agreements carefully.
- Sign above the line Make sure whatever that has been discussed and agreed by you and the service provider should be written on paper and signed by both sides. This helps to rectify any confusions or doubts should they occur later.
- Share load Get family members & friends involved. Allocate tasks to them & make sure you tell them clearly what you want. Get them to be either the bestman, bridesmaid, wedding co-ordinator, emcee, ushers or simpy to look after the gifts you’ll be receiving on your wedding day.
- Fun Add some fun to the wedding reception or dinner by placing disposable cameras or polaroids on the tables for your guests to snap candid scenes. Include pens with permanent-ink for guests to pen their thoughts or wishes on the polaroids.
- Archive with acid-free paper Paper keepsakes like invitation cards or guestbooks, will not turn yellow when archival paper is used. Though acid-free paper is also protective, over time the environment itself could still cause acidic agents to penetrate the paper.
- Photo negatives; Buy special albums or boxes that protect can photo negatives against fire or mishandling.
- Footwear Choose shoes that fit and are comfortable to wear. Don’t wear shoes that are too small.
- Look good Pamper yourself to a professional manicure, pedicure and brow shaping.
- Facials Have them done weeks before and not just days before the wedding ceremony.
- Dentist Pay a visit to a dentist to get your teeth cleaned or bleached professionally. Make your teeth as white as gown!
- Height If the bride is taller than the groom, besides wearing flats, the bride can also opt for a lower hairstyle & refrain from putting on any big headpiece.
- Gloves Wearing hand gloves adds grace and elegance to the bride’s gown. As they are made of of a variety of materials such as cotton, satin, nylon and leather, choose the one that best compliments the material of your gown. For sleeveless or strapless gowns, choose long gloves whereas for short-sleeves gowns, choose wrist-length gloves.
- Make-up I - staying modern To avoid looking dated, keep your make-up simple and natural. It’s trendy this way. Just use colors belonging to the same family.
- Make-up II - caking Make sure your base is sheer and light to prevent caking. Don’t add more face powder if your face starts to “oil”! This would make instant cakes. Use a face mist spray and blot with tissue before applying some powder. Matt lipsticks tend to go cakey too so try applying moisturing & creamy lipsticks instead.
- Make-up III - eye shadow It simply darkens when you’re feeling hot & sweaty so to lighten it, apply a lighter eye shadow or loose powder over it before re-applying the actual color.
- Pimple Quick fix : apply a concealer that is one shade lighter than your skin color before putting on foundation.
- Over-blushing Use a green concealer before applying foundation if you think you blush above acceptable levels.
- Beauty kit Get it ready before the wedding day. It should contain cotton buds, tissues, mirror, pressed power, lipstick, eyeshadow, face mist spray, sewing kit, nail glue, hair spray, safety pins & oil blotting paper.
- Emergency kit Assemble one that should contain extra pairs of stockings, an extra pair of contact lens with cleaning solution(if you’re wearing), umbrella & a first-aid kit.
- Wearing glasses Make sure the lenses are non-reflective so that they won’t reflect camera flash.
- Well-being Make sure you drink at least 8 glasses of water spread throughout the day, cut down on oily, deep-fried, salty & sweet food. Go for fresh green vegetables, fruits and lean meat. It will benefit to take vitamin (mainly A, C & E) supplements too.
- Relax, smile and be happy On the wedding day, enjoy it! Don’t be over-anxious. Allow some delays. Things will turn out fine.
- Eat something Start the wedding day with some food in your stomach.
