Quick Ways To Save Water

August 2nd, 2007

save water

Bathroom

  • Take short showers and turn the tap off while shampooing.
  • Use a cup to rinse mouth or razor and turn off the water while brushing, applying cleanser or shaving.

Car/Floor

  • Re-use rinse water from the washing machine to wash the car or mop the floor. If not, use water in a bucket rather than from a running hose.

Kitchen

  • Wash fruits, vegetables, rice in a bowl or sink filled with clean water instead of under a running tap. Reuse the water to water the plants, etc.
  • Likewise for dishes, soak them in a bowl or the sink before washing so that grease or stains can be scrubbed off easily.
  • Try to use a disherwasher only when there is a full load.
  • Always turn the tap to allow just enough water to flow. How often we let excess water flow off such like that! Water is one of those things that someday money cannot buy.

Laundry

  • Use the washing machine only when there is a full load.

If you wash by hand, save the rinse water to either clean bathroom tiles, clean the toilet bowl or mop the floor.

Plants

  • Water plants in the evening so that they can retain moisture.
  • Insert your finger about 2cm deep into the flower pot to determine the soil’s moisture content and water the plants only when the soil is dry.

Rain water

  • Collect it! Use it to water plants/garden or clean the patio or corridor.

  1. Saving water is one of the top priority things in my office, its estimated that there will be some shortage of water by 2015.

  2. Nirmal, it’s frightening that our planet is in danger of a water shortage crisis. Here, reclaimed water from treated sewage is mixed with reservoir water before undergoing treatment to produce portable water.
