Shoe Care Tips
- Always use a weather and stain-proof repellent on all shoes, especially those made of leather and suede. Weather-proofing prevents creases and cracks. Apply the repellent before wax polish.
- Here are some coloring materials you can use to camoflage scratches on shoe surface and heels : paint, nail polish, car paint markers, eye-liners, crayons, wax polish and candle wax.
- To cover up ugly-looking or tattered patches on the underfoot shoe surface, use a shoe insole or simply paste fabric first aid plasters onto the affected areas.
- Use the inside of the banana skin to polish leather shoes then wipe clean with a paper towel or soft cloth. A fabric softener sheet has the same effect.
- A shoe tree is a device usually made of cedar wood placed in a shoe to help keep the shape, resist creasing and cracking while making the insoles smooth.
- If shoes are wet, leave out to dry for at least 24 hours. Stuff newsletters to absorb moisture. Do not place them near heat or risk cracking.
- Alternate shoes and allow leather shoes to breathe and take a rest.
- To hide scratches or tattered patches on high-heel shanks, spread a thin layer of glue all over each shank, then sprinkle shimmery powder on top (use a little bit at a time), making sure that the powder covers the shank evenly. This give the heels a brand new look. Alternatively, you can also paint the shank with a shimmery nail polish.
- To protect high heel shanks from injury, coat one or two layers of clear varnish onto the heel for protection, then add a final coat of shoe wax.
- Use moisture absorbers in the shoes closet to keep leather shoes mold-free.
